Don’t make the mistake of writing a standard resume that won’t stand out in a crowd.

An insurance agent must highlight their experience and skills in an attention-grabbing resume or risk losing the job to someone who knows how to land an interview. For this episode of Agents Growth Academy, host Jim Schubert shares the details of what to include–and not include–in your resume from your contact information all the way down to your designations.

3 Key Takeaways

  • You have five seconds to sell yourself to the person scanning your resume. Don’t waste it on “I’d like to further my career…”
  • Show them the money! They want to see specific numbers you have generated in the past; paint them a clear picture of what you’re capable of.
  • LinkedIn is more than a means to see what you look like! Your potential employer will pay attention to how you interact with clients online.

[00:00:00] - Most people make the mistake of writing a standard resume which won't stand out from the crowd. Be on LinkedIn. You literally have 5 seconds to make an impression on the person reading your resume.

[00:03:58] - Put the name of the company where you're working and where you have worked in your other positions. Also put the dates of your employment. Jim wants to see if you jumped around. If you have very short stints at places to get my attention, let them know.

[00:05:37] - Next, list your responsibilities and accomplishments. Show them the money. Bullet points are encouraged when you're filling out this section. Also list the agency management systems that you use.

[00:07:36] - Are you licensed? Do you have product knowledge with their policies? What types of clients have you worked with? Make your resume one page long, succinct and maybe even single spaced.

[00:10:09] - Jim offers several video resources to help you prepare to land that resume and land that interview.
